'Rooted in Connection' events: Forest walks begin with gratitude
This fall, we invite you to slow down, look closely, and connect with the forests of Marin and with the community of people caring for them. Our new "Rooted in Connection" guided hike series explores the stories and science behind healthy forests and the role we all play in their future.
The series begins with an outing on Mt. Tam Day of Thanks, on Tuesday, Nov. 25, from 9 a.m.–noon at Lake Lagunitas. Together, we’ll reflect on the long tradition of stewardship on Mt. Tamalpais, learn what local wildlife is feasting on this season, and celebrate the resilience of these ecosystems. Activities include journaling and naturalist bingo, simple ways to deepen your sense of place.
Healthy forests are essential to climate resilience and community well-being. Through restoration, prescribed fire, and volunteer action, we're working to protect biodiversity and strengthen these landscapes for generations to come. This series, a partnership of the Parks Conservancy, Marin Water, and California Climate Action Corps, offers a chance to see that work in action and understand how every person can make a difference.
"The forests of Marin hold so many incredible stories," said Zoë Vavrek, Forest Health Community Engagement Associate. "My hope is that by attending one of these hikes, these stories will inspire people to continue to learn about and connect with the forests in their communities."
