CANCELED - Rangeland Birds

Ecologist Ryan DiGaudio from Point Blue Conservation Science will lead a walk-through grasslands and oak woodlands at Mt. Burdell Preserve to learn about these ecosystems and how they are being managed. On the walk we’ll identify birds nesting here, find native grasses, and discuss how Marin County Parks is using prescribed grazing to manage its grassland habitat. We’ll also discuss the partnership with Point Blue Conservation Science to study grassland ecosystems, gauge the health of the land, and help evaluate and inform the current management strategy. We’ll look at examples of both grazed and un-grazed grasslands within the preserve, and learn how birds, plants, and soils differ between the two management regimes. Remember to bring binoculars and a snack. Rain may cancel.

If questionable weather, call (415) 473-5089 after 7am on the morning of the event to hear a recorded message if canceled. Questions: Contact Sarah Minnick at (415) 473-5089.

Directions: From Hwy 101 in Novato, take the exit for San Marin Dr west 2.1 miles. Turn right onto San Carlos Way and follow to end (dead end).
