Tomales Bay Fungi Bioblitz

Tomales Bay Fungi Bioblitz

Source: One Tam Calendar

Kick off 2026 by joining us for a fungi Bioblitz in Tomales Bay State Park! What exactly is a “Bioblitz?” It is a quick, intense survey of the species at a specific site! At this event, we will be focusing on documenting the diversity of fungi at Tomales Bay State Park! We will be uploading all of the fungi photos we document to the iNaturalist app. Two incredible mycologists (people who study fungi), Thomas Brun of UC Berkeley and Sadie Hickey of _, will guide us in this survey using their local fungi knowledge.

Each day will start with a quick how-to and introduction to fungi and Tomales Bay State Park. We will then split up into two groups and hike a short-to-moderate distance to our survey locations where we will photograph and collect fungi in small groups. After the survey, participants will gather again to share their photos and identify fungi.

Registration is REQUIRED for all participants no later than December 30th. Unfortunately, we will not be able to accommodate drop-ins.

About the group:

Everyone is welcome! This bioblitz will involve a group of nature-curious folks of all ages and experience levels. Bioblitz facilitators will bring expertise about different aspects of Tomales Bay’s biodiversity and will provide coaching on identification and using iNaturalist
