Big Rock Ridge

This walk will take us from Lucas Valley up Big Rock Ridge, the second highest peak in the county after Mount Tamalpais. This is a long walk but most of it isn't particularly steep as it climbs through open grassland, oak woodland, and chaparral. The views along the way are excellent; we may or may not make it to the summit, but if we do the panorama is breathtaking. Total miles: 6.5 miles. Elevation change: 1050'. Remember to bring lunch, and binoculars if you have them. No pets are allowed, except for service/companion animals. Adverse weather or poor air quality may cancel. Registration is required.

Questions: Contact Shannon Burke

Directions: Meet at the Big Rock trailhead in San Rafael. From Hwy 101 in San Rafael, take the exit for Lucas Valley Rd west approximately 5.5 miles (look for the big rock). Parking is on the south side of Lucas Valley Rd. Do not turn around at the top of the hill. Continue past the top of the hill and turn around in the large driveway on the right.
