Deer Island Preserve

Oaks and their acorns are vitally important to a broad spectrum of animals (including humans). We’ll discuss the role of these trees in ecosystems as well as the traits of common species and the challenges of identifying hybrids. This walk includes a fairly steep uphill section and a steep, slippery downhill section. Total miles: 1.5. Elevation change: 250'. Remember to bring lunch, and binoculars if you have them. No pets are allowed, except for service/companion animals. Adverse weather or poor air quality may cancel. Registration is required.

Directions: Meet at the gate on Deer Island Ln in Novato. From Hwy 101 in Novato, take the exit for Atherton Ave east 1.7 miles. Turn right onto Olive Ave and left onto Deer Island Ln. The gate is on your right.
