The History of Deer Island

Join Ranger Alec and Sonya Hammons (from our Food, Agriculture, and Resilient Ecosystems program) on an interpretive hike around the preserve to learn about its fascinating history. Discover how the historic dairy operations on Deer Island fit into the larger context of modern agriculture in Marin. Distance: 2 miles; elevation gain: 130 feet. Appropriate for ages 18 and older. Friendly dogs are okay but must be on a leash. Adverse weather or poor air quality may cancel. Check the calendar, or if in doubt, call (415) 473-2816 to confirm the status. Registration required.

Directions: Meet at the gate on Deer Island Ln in Novato. From Hwy 101 in Novato, take the exit for Atherton Ave east 1.7 miles. Turn right onto Olive Ave and left onto Deer Island Ln. The gate is on your right.
