Fungus Among Us

Join rangers for an exploration of winter's bounty—mushrooms! We will hike the Big Trees Trail to observe the fascinating world of decomposition, where mighty fungi are hard at work. Please note that this outing is for observation purposes only and is not intended for identifying individual species. The hike will be approximately 4 miles long and will involve steep slopes and slippery trails. Appropriate for ages 15 and older. Dress in layers and wear sturdy shoes. Don't forget to bring water and a snack. The hike will cover a distance of 3.7 miles with an elevation gain of 650 feet. Adverse weather or poor air quality conditions may result in cancellation. Check the calendar or call (415) 473-2816 two hours before the event to confirm the status. Registration is required.
