Sunday, February 22, 2026, 10am – 2pm

Rising above the surrounding marshland and pastures, the mix of forest and grassland of this little ridge make it a great place to see raptors and other birds that spend the winter here. If there’s been enough rain to flood the surrounding marshland there should be an array of ducks as well. This walk is only a couple of miles long but includes a slow climb to the ridge and a steep, sometimes slippery, downhill section. Total miles: 1.5. Elevation change: 250’. Remember to bring lunch, and binoculars if you have them. No pets are not allowed, except for service/companion animals. Adverse weather or poor air quality may cancel. Registration is required.
Questions: Contact Shannon Burke
Directions: Meet at the gate on Deer Island Ln in Novato. From Hwy 101 in Novato, take the exit for Atherton Ave east 1.7 miles. Turn right onto Olive Ave and left onto Deer Island Ln. The gate is on your right.
