Every year a multitude of birds move through the outer areas of the county while migrating to their winter destinations. In late summer many of them are already on the move pausing here to refuel before continuing their journey south. We'll explore the estuary, beach, and bay looking for birds along the lagoon, foraging with the tide, and out on the open water. If we're lucky, we might spot local snowy plovers as well. Total miles: 3. There is virtually no elevation change but we will be walking in sand. This walk is offered in partnership with Point Reyes National Seashore. Remember to bring lunch, and binoculars if you have them. No pets (except service dogs) are allowed. Adverse weather or poor air quality may cancel. Registration is required.
Questions: Contact Shannon Burke.
Directions: Meet at the Limantour Beach parking area. From Hwy 101 in Larkspur, take the exit for Sir Francis Drake Blvd west 20.4 miles to Olema. Turn right onto Hwy 1. Go 500 feet, turn left onto Bear Valley Rd go 0.5 miles, turn left onto Limantour Rd, 7.5 miles to parking area.
