Deer Island

No longer a true island, this small preserve is still a wildlife oasis at the edge of urban Novato and the surrounding seasonal wetlands. The forest and grasslands here are home to a variety of birds (including many breeding raptors), reptiles, insects, and wildflowers. This walk is only a couple of miles long but includes a slow climb to the ridge and a fairly steep downhill section. Total miles: 1.5. Elevation change: 250’. Remember to bring lunch, and binoculars if you have them. No pets (except service dogs) are allowed. Save time on the day of the event by signing in now. Be sure to check the calendar or call (415) 473-6086 two hours before the event to confirm the status. Illness, adverse weather, or poor air quality may cancel.

Questions: Contact Shannon Burke at SBurke@marincounty.org.
