Discover the fascinating creatures that inhabit the local salt marsh at Santa Margarita Island. Have you ever wondered why an egret has such long legs? Or how many living organisms can be found in a handful of mud? Or how do plants survive by drinking saltwater? Join Ranger Martin to find the answers to these questions and more! Dress in layers and wear sturdy shoes. Distance: 0.5 miles; elevation gain: 20 feet. No pets (except service dogs) are allowed. Adverse weather or poor air quality may cancel. Check the calendar, or if in doubt, call (415) 473-2816 two hours before the event to confirm the status. Registration required.

Directions: Meet at the gate at the end of Meadow Dr in San Rafael. From Hwy 101 in San Rafael, take the exit for N San Pedro Rd east 1.1 miles. Turn left onto Meadow Dr (opposite the 7-Eleven store) and drive to the end of the street.
