Basics of Freshwater Fishing

Rangers will teach tips and tricks of the trade of freshwater fishing at McInnis Pond. A fishing license is required for participants 16 and older. This event requires a short walk up and down a large hill to reach the pond. Appropriate for all ages. A limited number of fishing poles and bait will be provided to beginners on a first-come, first-served basis. Don’t forget your pole if you have one. Friendly dogs are welcome but must be leashed. Adverse weather or poor air quality may cancel; if in doubt, text or call (415) 446-4423 two hours before the event to confirm the status. Registration required.

Directions: Meet at the skate park in McInnis Park in San Rafael (310 Smith Ranch Rd). From Hwy 101 in San Rafael, take the exit for Smith Ranch Rd east, approximately 0.7 miles. Drive over the railroad tracks and immediately turn left to stay on Smith Ranch Rd. (If you go through the park entrance, you have gone too far). Look for the skate park sign, turn right, and follow the road to the parking lot.
