Butterfly BioBlitz

Join us for a Butterfly BioBlitz at Ring Mountain! Help Parks to get a “snap shot” of the butterfly diversity at the preserve. No experience or special equipment necessary. Learn about the importance of butterflies and how to identify the different kinds from local butterfly expert Liam O’Brien.

As we hike we will take photos to document the butterflies we find with iNaturalist, a community science smartphone app. The 2-mile hike will include some steep terrain and stairs. Bring a bottle of water and a packed lunch to eat while we enjoy the company of “hill topping” butterflies, and our fellow BioBlitz-ers, at the top of the mountain. We will have some shared devices available if you do not have a smartphone.

This event is for ages 12 and up. We request that no pets (except service animals) attend. Rain, fog, or windy conditions may postpone this event.
Attendees will be notified if there are any changes made to the schedule. The back-up date Sunday, May 19th, has been selected if this event is rescheduled.

RSVP is required, please contact Amanda Magallanes at or 415-473-5058.

This event is capped at 25 participants. You will receive a confirmation with additional details and directions to the event.

Directions: Please register with Amanda Magallanes at  for details.
